About Me

I’m Lucy — an Independent Midwife and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

I support women and families through pregnancy and the early postnatal weeks with care that is consistent, unhurried, and centred around you.

Midwifery has never felt like “just a job” to me — it’s something that sits deeply within my values. Autonomy, informed choice, continuity, and respectful, individualised care aren’t add-ons for me, they are the foundation of how I practise.

I trained and worked within NHS maternity services, where I gained invaluable experience and a real respect for the people working within it. At the same time, I saw how increasing pressures can impact the ability to provide the kind of care many women are hoping for — care that feels joined-up, personal, and steady.

Over time, I felt drawn to work differently.

Offering care that allows time, depth, and genuine connection.

As an Independent Midwife, I provide personalised antenatal and postnatal care (currently not offering intrapartum care), with continuity throughout. This means you see the same midwife, have space to ask questions as they arise, and are supported in a way that reflects you, your preferences, and your circumstances.

My role is not to direct your decisions, but to journey alongside you — offering clear, evidence-based information, thoughtful discussion, and support as you navigate your choices.

Alongside this, I am an IBCLC, providing specialist infant feeding support. Feeding can feel overwhelming, particularly in the early days when everything is new and you are recovering yourself.

My approach is calm, thorough and practical — combining clinical knowledge with reassurance and without judgement. Whether you are preparing to breastfeed, establishing feeding, or working through challenges, you will be supported in a way that feels manageable and responsive to you and your baby.

I see pregnancy, birth and early motherhood as experiences that stay with you. They shape how you feel in your body, your confidence, and your transition into parenthood.

You deserve care that recognises that.

My work is grounded in:

  • Evidence-based guidance
  • Honest, open communication
  • Respect for physiology and individual variation
  • Emotional safety and steady support
  • Continuity and trust

Above all, I aim to offer care that feels consistent, calm and genuinely supportive — whether this is your first baby or your fifth.

Why Choose An Independent Midwife (IM)?

A question I’m often asked is — why choose independent care when we have the NHS?

For many families, it comes down to the experience of care, not just the clinical aspects. Investment is support and care for you during these times is (as some of my previous clients have stated) invaluable.

Independent midwives are fully qualified and registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC), but we work outside of mainstream maternity services. This allows us to offer care that is more flexible, continuous, and tailored to you.

Working with an Independent Midwife means:

  • Continuity — seeing the same midwife throughout your care
  • Appointments in your own home, at a pace that isn’t rushed
  • Time to explore your pregnancy, birth preferences and postnatal plans in depth
  • Space for questions, discussion and informed decision-making
  • Evidence-based support that is not limited by local policy constraints
  • Ongoing postnatal care beyond the early discharge timelines often seen in standard services

For many, it also means feeling known — not needing to repeat your story, and having someone alongside you who understands your journey as it unfolds.

I, and many other independent midwives, also recognise and honour the transition into motherhood — a time that deserves care, attention and support in its own right.
